I’ve been using essential oils for as long as I can remember. From high-school onwards I can recall using various scent oils, tea tree oil for all my crazy skin outbreaks… and pretty much everywhere in between.
Then about five months ago I was sitting with a friend who complained about a headache and I kindly offered her the last headache tablet I could scratch out from the bottom of my handbag.
She stared at it for a moment, thanked me and politely declined. She was digging around her backpack and presented a beautiful, tiny amber bottle with a green label. She opened it and I was instantaneously hit between the eyes by the most amazing smell… It was the first time in my life that I could actually smell the oil from someone else opening a bottle. Yes, this was pure therapeutic grade essential oils (don’t worry, I had no idea what that meant either). She applied no more than two drops of the oil and rubbed her palms clockwise and inhaled deeply. About twenty minutes later the headache seemed to have disappeared and the amazing wafts of peppermint had remained.
My love affair with Young Living started there and then
I discovered that the amazing Peppermint Oil came from Young Living and came with an amazing starter kit and 9 other oils. Until recently all Oils had to be imported from the US as South Africa was deemed to be a Not for Resale Market and essentially meant that Oils bought could only be utilised for personal use. I was quick to jump online to learn everything I can about this amazing product and within two days I had signed up as a Distributor, ordered my Starter Kit and was eagerly awaiting my delivery from the US to arrive.
And so started my love affair with Young Essentials
So I ordered my Starter Kit from the US which comes with the beautiful Dewdrop Diffuser as well as 10 amazing oils. The South African Young Living Starter Kit offers a slightly different selection of oils (but includes Valor and Frankincense which did not come with mine) and essentially means that the collection of oils when ordered separately would cost you more than R 4000 in total.
The day my Kit arrived was like Christmas, I poured over the bottles, the Price List (which offers a lovely overview of all the oils) as well as other products available in the US.
And so it starts
Starting your own business can be daunting. Starting your own Multi-level Marketing business in SA is even more challenging. This is not your typical Avon or Tupperware sales efforts – this is a lifestyle. What has impressed me even more than the brand was the amazing group of women in my upline (more on the terminology later) and the sheer amount of educating, advise and support I receive. There are weekly calls on Zoom, supportive WhatsApp messages and just general banter. I’m so excited about starting this business and getting up and running.
